5 ways to manage hair in the winter months

I am a Chicagoan thus I have experienced harsh weather conditions. This is for my girlies who are looking for product recommendations and tips.

Here are five top ways to keep hair healthy and manageable during the winter months:

1. Deep Condition Regularly: Cold weather can strip hair of moisture, so using a deep conditioning treatment once a week helps keep hair hydrated and prevents dryness. Look for masks or conditioners with rich ingredients like shea butter, avocado oil, or honey. If you can afford one of those hair dryer caps. It's a game changer. If you're lazy just pay the extra $15 and add the deep conditioner to your service when you visit your stylist. Also, get those ends trimmed.

Here are my favorite deep conditioners:

2. Seal in Moisture with Oils: After moisturizing, lock in hydration with natural oils like jojoba, argon, or castor oil. This creates a barrier that protects against harsh winter air and keeps hair soft. Don't over use the oils. Use them in moderation. The rosemary mint oil  and Donna's recipe hair strengthening oil is the holy grail but I also recommend store brought grape seed oil.

3. Limit Heat Styling: This is a big one. Ya'll need to stop burning/frying ya'll leave-outs. Incorporate rollers or pin curls. Excessive heat can make winter dryness worse. Try embracing no-heat styles like braids, twists, or buns to keep hair healthy. If you do use heat often, PLEASE always apply a heat protectant.

4. Wear Protective Styles: Styles like Native Diamond wigs, braids, or twists can help protect hair from cold temperatures while reducing the need for daily styling. Just make sure to keep your scalp and edges moisturized to prevent breakage.

5. Use a Satin or Silk Scarf: Wool hats and scarves can cause friction, leading to breakage and frizz. Also be careful with the terry cloth towels. They pull your hair out. Protect your hair by wrapping it in a satin or silk scarf before putting on your winter hat, or try a satin-lined hat for extra protection.

These tips help retain moisture, reduce breakage, and keep hair looking its best through the winter!
